Effective Ways of Brainstorming
One of
the practical tools of design thinking which I have learned about that is
brainstorming. I considered that this tool can combine an informal and also
stress-free approach to problem-solving with sidelong thinking. During the
group activities of design thinking workshops, I observed how this tool can
encourage me and my group members to come up with ideas which can be a
little absurd, stupid or crazy at first. Indeed, at the right time we
can see how some of such thoughts can be crafted into unique and innovative
solutions to a problem, however, some members can spark and build even
more and more ideas. This can help people to become free of the typical ways of
thinking and be more creative instead.
Moreover,
I realized that how it is critical throughout brainstorming activities, I and
others avoid judging, criticizing or even rewarding ideas. We can Encourage
wild ideas as they can often result in creative leaps and also
we can build on the ideas of the other members. However,
focusing on the topic is the main part of this stage and we have to keep
the argument and idea generation based on our target, otherwise we can diverge
away from the area of what we are attempting to design for.
In point
of fact, by applying this concept we are trying to open up potentials, options,
alternatives and break down inappropriate assumptions regarding the problem's
restrictions. So during brainstorming evaluation and Judgment can kill idea
generation and confine creativity in a design thinking process.
